When outfitting your wedding, you are creating a memory that will last forever. Whether it is a relatively quiet ceremony with close friends and family members or going the distance with an enormous gathering to celebrate your happy union, the two things your guests will have to remember the event by are the pictures they take and the wedding shower favors you give them. Make their experiences extra special by following simple five tips and the memories will last a lifetime.

First, choose a theme and stick to it. When shopping for decorations and entertainment, it is easy to get carried away. Selecting a theme helps keep costs down by preventing the list of purchases from growing out of control and creates a wonderful photo opportunity for your friends. What the theme is depends on your preferences and your personal vision for your wedding. Seasonal themes are easy to design and even easier to find decorations for. On the other hand, other themes—such as themes based on the heritage of the bride and groom—can make for an even more memorable wedding. Beautiful striking colors such as deep maroons or blues are less traditional than the all white and pastel spread, but they make for great pictures and a refined atmosphere. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with following tradition.

Second, make it so your guests feel catered to individually. This may be your day to shine, but considering others when arranging for invitations or selecting bridal shower favors promotes a festive atmosphere and ensures that you’re wedding will endure in the hearts of your friends and family. For instance, you can send favors or invitations with a personalized message. This gets more difficult when you have more guests, so one way to make sure that everyone feels included is to divide your guest list by how you know them and to design a message based on the shared memories you have with each group. For instance, a message to a college friend can include

Third, personalize your wedding wherever possible. This may seem to contradict the earlier paragraph, but in fact making your wedding distinctive does not necessarily mean that you have to sacrifice the personal touch used to connect with your friends and family. In fact, it may be just the opposite. A personalized gift message or pin for the bridesmaid is even more distinctive when it follows a certain pattern. Some aspects of personalization, such as music, tends to follow a pattern but allows for customization. Also consider writing your own wedding vows, or getting a friend to help you write them. It will require a little more work depending on your religious denomination, if any, but the vow exchange is an opportunity to add a special touch to an already special moment.

Finally, plan ahead, much farther ahead than you think you should. This isn’t a tip that ensures a beautiful memory by itself, but it works together with earlier tips. Not rushing around means you have more time to shop around and compare themes. Most event plans—decorations, catering, etc—should be solidified months in advance, and stick with the plan you made once you have made it. If you do so, you will ensure that each decision you make (and you’ll make a lot of them!) will get proper consideration for maximum effect.
